"I was one of us" visualizes the power dynamics within a society where fear and oppression are the norm, and the vulnerability of the individual in the face of systemic control.

The act of singing in unison symbolizes the hope and defiance that arises in the face of oppression. The figure in black selects victims in random order. He represents the oppressive force, whose arbitrary actions and ruthless methods create a sense of constant fear and uncertainty. The use of tape to silence the performers underscores the brutal and dehumanizing nature of this force.

As the performers are gradually silenced, the piece becomes increasingly tense and ominous, reflecting the sense of impending doom that often accompanies oppressive regimes. The final, solitary voice represents the last vestiges of resistance, and its abrupt cessation serves as a reminder of the high cost of dissent in such a society.

1-100 (2022)

"1-100" takes place in a white room filled with red balloons, each numbered from 1 to 100. A black-clad figure randomly chooses a ball from a lottery box, inspect the number, and pop the corresponding balloon. The sound of the explosions rattles my nerves as I cling to the balloon in my arms.

”Secret Keeper” is one of the performances I conducted at Ki Smith Gallery, NYC. Guests were invited to write down a secret on paper and place it in the red box. I then transcribed the writings onto edible paper. During the performance, I read out people’s secrets one by one and consumed them.
